Highlighting African-Canadian history through art and technology
Robert Small
Feb. 16, 12:00 noon – 1:15 p.m.
When Robert Small was a teenager drawing Spider-Man, he did not realize that one day he would revolutionize the celebration of Black History Month through his art. Another milestone Small would never think he would achieve is becoming an Order of Canada recipient for his art.
He was given Canada’s highest honour awarded to a citizen because for more than a quarter of a decade, his art has been featured in a poster he created called, “LEGACY.” Distributed annually, the poster has educated millions about the history, contributions and accomplishments of African-Canadians.
